When I was a kid, my mom used to tell me,

"You have a gift for helping people.”I believed her…

Years later, I said that line out loud to my wife at the time.

She hit me with,
 

 

“Get a real job.”


And after an argument, I did.

I jumped into corporate life, worked myself numb, came home exhausted, and somehow still had enough energy to argue.

 

And over time, it got worse, roommate syndrome, more bickering, less time together.

Then the divorce landed.

I started drinking like I was trying to shut my brain off.

 

Sadness, shame, denial, all of it, drowned in a bottle.
 

My health collapsed. Cirrhosis. My work fell apart. I shut down my business.

Then a doctor looked me dead in the eyes and said...
